What gives a state the right to deem education a necessity, it's funny because we...

I guess not.
I mean we do need people in the world that are ditch diggers, oh wait they still need to learn how to use equipment for that.

Education is a basic human right and should be encourage regardless of what some narrow minded individual might think. People that argue that you do not need education obviously had a bad shake when it comes to learning. I bet it was that 4th grade math teacher that did it.

Obviously you received some type of education, since your entire rant on here was spelled correctly and there were no grammar errors. See education works :)

...argue over healthcare? Select states deem education a necessity and mandate college child support to be paid after the age of 18.

It's funny because we argue if health-care is a necessity, and there's no set answer on that one.

If an angry father decided to challenge a states decision deeming education a necessity, would they stand a chance of winning?

I can't think of one argument that would make education a necessity not even in the slightest, can you?

I believe when a child turns 18, the state should no longer have the right to intervene, their logic for intervening is that education is a necessity so they must.

Without an education, what is one to do besides be a welfare monkey? It's in the state's best interest to educate its people, it is an investment in them.

Funny though liberals promote the enlightening of education.... but don't do anything to make it affordable since it is a Liberal Industry of Tax free college's and overpaid Tenure and Alumni with the unions close by.... but then complain about other industries not doing this and that.....

Neither health care nor education are a necessity. Americans use to be responsible for educating their children. Some did, some didn't. It was their choice as it should have been. With the industrial revolution Henry Ford, Woodrow Wilson and some others got together and decided that there weren't enough people to serve as workers in the factories that we as a growing industrialized nation needed. They came up with the public education system to provide workers for their factories. They went out of their way to ensure that schools would produce good subservient labor, not leaders. The creation of a public education system, just like that of mandatory health care was illegal. But who enforces the laws? Technically, all entitlement programs are illegal, but the government educated population elects officials who promise them things ie health care, welfare, public education, social security.

great point! Star.

no, I don't think the father would win. The state Supreme Court would defer to the legislature, if they even agreed to hear the case.

there are plenty of arguments that education is a necessity but they are societal/socio-economic reasons, much like the arguments in favor of health care reform. In fact, it could easily be argued that health is much more fundamental and necessary than education.
