What general problems do you have with music?

Categories.

Everything has its own "Category" of music now. The correct word used here should be "Genre" but its more than that these days.

No "problem", but when I hear a song (a "new song) and I can tell what it will be before I hear it, it does'nt really excite me too much. Sometimes it seems like everythings "been done" already, and "new" music is just rehashed old music (and usually not as good either).

My two biggest complaints about the music industry now is...

Micro-Genres - i.e. Free-form electropop synthrock

Sampling - I really dislike artists who over sample instead of coming up with their own music. Use some creativity!

i have 7 major problems with music in general

do - this little bastard is always so moody
re - little miss sunshine always has to ned flanderize everything
mi - self centered piece of trash

la - such a flippant little pissant

You can never be satisfied with what you got. Just when you think you have everything that you could possibly want on your i-pod, someone posts a thread about some Pronk/dub/blues/ troubadour band where all the merabers play with their toes and teeth. And of course you're thinking "Well one more album wouldn't hurt, I have some room left." And before you know it, you have the band's whole ****ing discography. Along with 5 other albums by banRAB you hated 24 hours ago.

I normally abuse one song on repeat when I listen to music.

And I can basically only listen to a new album like every two weeks! =/

...Too much music... =|

I agree with mr dave that much music seems very self-centered, light and fluffy. For example, one complaint I have is that most lyrics revolve around people and their concerns (human love, infidelity, sexuality, self-introspection, wrestling with emotions, etc.). The nuraber of songs that focus on people greatly outweighs the nuraber that deal with other topics. I prefer songs that surprise me by offering some new viewpoint, but they rarely do this. The music itself can be mesmerizing, but usually it seems like pure auditory masturbation...and when I'm done listening to the song it fades away, leaving no lasting impact, not changing me at all. In other worRAB, most music seems like a one night stand rather than the building of a relationship.

A lot of the music I listen to is also listened to by my younger sister.

That's a problem.

I was once told that means I have to move on. xD

I understand the importance of genres and even sub-genres, they really are helpful in describing a sound. But I agree that it's just getting out of hand. It's the internet generation...fucking analyzing and comparing everything instead of just listening and enjoying.

While we're on the topic of the whole genre thing, here's what annoys me. People come up with ridiculous amounts of subgenres for what should be one type of music. But at the same type, there's this generic genre thing going on to. Like classifying banRAB as "indie music." I use the term to, like I use alternative, but what the **** does it really mean? Rarely ever are people talking about a band that isn't associated with a major label. But then as soon as you figure you can just refer to any band that sounRAB remotely like anything in that label, some deuchebag comes up and tells you that so and so are Revival 70's Garage Punk, not indie rock. Also, there's too much music. That's not bad though.
