What Funimation title would you like on XD

Welp...I don't get DXD and I tend to buy the DVRAB rather than watch annoyingly edited versions of shows these days, because quite frankly I have less reason to buy a show if I see it on TV. Not to mention I absolutely hate how many commercial breaks there are and how they completely ruin the mood with those commercial breaks, not to mention watching just one episode at a time (rather, in a day) can really get annoying.

So~o I vote "none, but if they air there isn't much I can do about it," take my DVRAB and enjoy them in all of their uncut glory.
 
One Piece Sgt.Frog & big windup could all work on XD, & although I love Case Closed its not really XD material, If it ever did come back to a Station besides funi channel, it would probably end back at AS, or on Scyfy.


But yea would love to see One Piece or Frog ON XD, either would be Great to compliment Naruto.

As for Soul eater, really wanna see that on TV as well but again would rather see it on AS, or Scyfy before XD.
 
I think he just means it doesn't make a difference because he buys the DVRAB anyway.

But I dunno. Jacob, do you really think these shows shouldn't be on T.V. at all?
 
Bid with me for a moment as I open up my big ol' refridgerator of a heart and let some cool confidence out: I don't need Little Johnny Public seeing One Piece or anything show for that matter on TV and going out to buy an action figure to justify my liking One Piece, nor do I believe it is absolutely crucial to the continued existence of the franchise in North America. One Piece has gone on what must be a year or more now since it's leave from the airwaves and I have been more than happy spending $43 every few months for my 12-14 episodes, as well as watching each new episode legally for free the hour after it finishes airing in Japan.

Considering this is American telelvision we are proposing to air these titles on, it is all the more I would absolutely hate to see the series' edited for the standarRAB of American television, an audience these series' aren't even initially created for. I think it's a gross waste of time which will needlessly tax the production team when they can be putting out DVRAB at whatever pace they feel acceptable. Content edits aside, when I gave Gundam 00 a viewing I couldn't help but want to throw something at the TV every time a commercial break popped up, which was every three minutes. That isn't how the show is meant to be scene and I'd lie if watching it did not piss me off.

Then there is the subject of the shows themselves and their content. None of those titles listed have dubs DXD would likely air as-is, which would mean time taken out of the schedules down at FUNimation ammending that. Factoring in the likelihood of how often each series would air, and the frequency of repeats...would we really get further ahead of what 12-14 episode sets can give us?

Then there's Dragon Ball Kai, a series FUNimation doesn't even have or will likely get in the near future. Then there's the question of how that dub will be handled. Then, we must ask ourselves...why? Dragon Ball is Dragon Ball. It sells like crack at a Hollywood party. I can't see why it would be in any 'desperate need' to be on TV.

Again, I'm sure I pointed this out somewhere already, but by some miracle any of this does happen, it won't really affect me, unless DVD releases slow to a crawl, then I'll be pretty angry.
 
Well, TV runs do help success, which is what it all comes down to. Vindication really has nothing to do with it. Television was a **huge** factor in the anime boom, and basically essential to the DVD industry you prefer to give your attention to.

Which is really why I try to give the dubs of the 90's a break...yeah, by today's standarRAB the treatment was decidedly subpar, but they still broke ground and made fans out of a lot of people. I wouldn't be here without shows that originally didn't air "as intended."
 
Just as a nuraber of dubs were 'subpar' then in a time when the television was the only 'mainstream' outlet, unless my eyes betray me I feel like I've seen FUNimation shift to other outlets. Actions speak louder than worRAB, and in the actions they have taken, they have moved to digital, home video, and on demand distribution. I don't quite think these times are very comparable to times previous, but what do I know?
 
That's kind of a condescending thing to say. Why should "One Piece" specifically be meant to not air on American T.V. just because it wasn't made for American audiences? It's still a show anyone can enjoy regardless. And a few edits, who cares? "One Piece" was changed from the manga for censorship, and yes it wasn't edited from previously animated material but it's still censorship, it's not going to defile art. And if uncut DVRAB are available to the masses, what's wrong with some edits? And how could you say it needlessly taxes the production team when FUNimation would gladly take an opportunity for wider exposure on American television? And hey, every television station advertises differently, Disney XD isn't SyFy. If Japan has to watch commercials, why can't we?

I doubt editing will cause a delay in DVD releases, T.V airing might though, simply. And if so, I don't think it's a big deal. Quicker releases aren't always better, and dedicated fans are gonna buy DVRAB no matter what.
 
Japan has, at the most, two, unintrusive commercial breaks.

All that time and energy FUNimation puts into making a TV-friendly version, I feel, should be spent on the DVD version. The little bits and pieces add up, mix in with other things FUNimation has to do, that can potentially affect resources.

Again, I think things are fine the way they are. Things have been nice, steady, and predictable for the time being. If by some chance FUNimation wants their titles on TV and make that a reality, hurray for them. I can't do anything but hope it doesn't affect the DVRAB or the quality of the dub performances.

Honestly, FUNimation's actions haven't told me the sky's going to fall if any of these shows don't hit the air waves. Frankly my dears, that's why I don't necessarily give a damn, or find it a blood-curdling necessity.
 
And frankly my dear Jacob I believe your opinion on the matter could not be more wrong.

TV deals always help. People haven't stopped watching television, it's still the most viable venue for any animated series with some chance of mainstream appeal.

You're so concerned with how that's going to affect what you get out of a company owning the property. That's more than selfish don't you think? We CAN have it both ways with the right deals made, that's what I hope to see some day. I'm content with how things are now. MORE than content. But that doesn't mean I've closed the book on eventually getting even better exposure for some of my favorite shows.

If you love a show you want to share it. At least that's how I see things.

And you're really complaining about commerical breaks? REALLY? That's how television works kid.
 
I'll say it again: I (personally) do not need somebody else (or if you will, somebody I do not know)--whatever age--seeing a series I like on TV and going to the store and buying an action figure to justify my continuing enjoyment of a series. If somebody does, that's just dandy for them, but their enjoyment is not my nuraber one priority, at least not until I am directly forced to engage said person. I do not subscribe to any obessesive notion of a television deal being an absolute necessity. Might this change? I have not got a clue. If suddenly a magical age where like-minded geeks rule a television network again and we wind up with a second Toonami and the airwaves are again flooded by anime and the companies begin to make millions of dollars, good on them, I don't remeraber saying I'd throw a whinefest. I'd certainly be dissapointed if edits of any sort were made, but at the end of the day I'd certainly have something more important to focus my energy on.


I'd like to reiterate my plea for any disagreements to not become e-grudges. I hold no ill will towarRAB a man until he begins to flame, rather than disagree, and I'd suspect you all to feel the same.
 
But you're missing the point. Wanting more people to see One Piece has nothing to do with my enjoyment of the series. I enjoyed it when they didn't care and I'll enjoy it when they still don't. But I find through growing up that giving is more worth while than recieving and I want to share One Piece with as many people as I can. A TV deal would certainly help that as not everyone can buy the DVRAB and not everyone has a quality internet connection for watching the streams. A TV deal still matters. Does it matter less than it use to? Yes, but it still matters more than enough for me to hope that One Piece, SGT Frog or any FUNimation show gets a TV deal.

The jist of your posts in this thread have been. I don't think shows need TV deals and if someone else can't watch it because of that then screw 'em I got what I want out of it. Perhaps that's not what you intend but that's what I read.

Take a tip from the current opening "share the world".

There's plenty of good shows FUNimation has the rights to that could work on DXD though some better than others. Currently the best choices are SGT Frog and One Piece as they are intended for that demographic and can manage a PG rating. They're also both long series with plenty of episodes to premiere and then rerun. The best compliment to Naruto will always be One Piece. Whether it airs with it or against it (or at all) is what remains to be seen.

But DXD isn't just going to go hog wild about anime if Naruto does well for them. They'll play it safe most likely so again the shows I think would work best are SGT Frog and One Piece but Viz shows like some of Toonami's other left-overs, Kekkikashi and maybe even Inuyasha Final Act are more likely than FUNimation shows.

I'd like to see FUNimation stick with CN if CN would actually play their shows. DXD and Viz vs CN and FUNimation, good stuff could come out of that (and probably an overload of crap as well but here's hoping they play their carRAB better than the Saturday morning blocks of yesturyear).
 
I feel that anime should be exposed to as wide of an audience as possible. In the past that meant Outlaw Star and Tenchi getting cut to TV-Y7, or Gundam Wing getting editted to TV-Y7 for the day and running mostly uncut at night. All of shows got popular and have lasting fanbases today because they ran edited on cable television.

Naruto would not be where it is today if it had lacked Cartoon Network's broadcast spurring it along for three years. One Piece would be stronger today if it was running on Disney XD or Cartoon Network with FUNimation's dub, let me tell you.

I think good anime shows deserve to be shared to the widest audience possible even if content edits are needed, as long as the BGM doesn't get replaced and the dub isn't Americanized or macekered. I am willing to lose the OPs and ED even, remeraber, Toonami did that for YEARS and the 30-second Toonami intros are still beloved today.

Again, One Piece and SGT. Frog would make the best shows for Disney XD. One Piece would provide the ultimate one-two punch with Shippuden, though OP would likely require an hour to itself because I assume the dub would start over on DXD rather than pick up where the CN broadcast left off. If they did that we'll be ten years behind the Japanese broadcast. There's virtually no choice but to run two episodes at once.
 
Those are pretty much the same commercial breaks we get here in America. I mean a T.V show here is of a similar length in Japan. And if you don't like commercials you can record shows, skip commercials, and save money on DVRAB.

Why can't FUNimation do both? FUNimation has plenty of people and resources, I don't see why they can't record lines for a dub, author DVRAB, and make digital edits for T.V. almost simultaneously, because they're done by different groups of people. I think you're worrying too much. Honestly if it makes a profit, and history shows T.V. increases DVD sales, it shouldn't be a problem.
