What forms/documentation needs to be provided for a wedding in England with a

Swedish groom? Both my fiancé and I currently live in Sweden. However, I am a British citizen, and we would like to get married in the UK. We have no plans to stay in the UK, just get married there. The response I got from my local registry office was: "you would both need to be resident in this country for a minimum of 8 days before you could give your legal notice of marriage, this would need to be a minimum of 16 days from the date of the wedding and no more than a year in advance." I'm wondering exactly what 'resident' in this case means? Anyone else been married in the UK with a European partner who could help me out here?
