As I understand it, chromosomes can be either the classic "X" shape or a single linear strand depending on what phase of division the cell is undergoing. But what if the cell is not in any process of division? Say, in the nucleus of a heart cell (they never divide), what form is the chromosome in? X-shaped? Single linear strand? Other?
What form does DNA take shape of when the cell is NOT dividing?
