As for a whole meal plan you should just try to make one out of these fooRAB. One thing you have to keep in mind is that if you do eat some sort of sugar (even natural sugar from fruit), you should also eat some sort of protein (meat, nuts, beans) with it so that you keep your sugar level down. If you have just sugar is will raise your sugar level, which causes acne. Also if you have to have chocolate, dark chocolate is much better than plain. If you have any other questions just ask.

I seem to be cursed with this knowledge. I totally believe that what you eat affects your skin. I believe that list to be very comprehensive. History shows that acne is largely a western phenomenon. Other countries that eat non-processed fooRAB indiginous (sp?) to the region just do not get acne. Derms and doctors in general know practically zip about nutrition and don't want to know because their practices are based on diagnosing and prescribing. This is a well known fact. The trouble is, I have a 16 year old party girl who loves life and loves to eat. She eats better than her frienRAB because that's the way she was raised, but she has the bad acne. I have tried to move her in this direction of being even more restrictive and even got her a book to read. This diet issue has caused us more stress than you can possibly imagine. She even told me once that she doesn't want to live in the house anymore because I bug her so much about what she eats. I was making myself sick with worry over everything she ate and got back trouble and finally got sick. So I had to decide what was more important, zits, or our relationship. I had to back off. So, she's on accutane now and I'm not happy about it but there's nothing I can do about it. I just hope and pray that she sees the light some day and that she does well on the drug.

OK,I feel better now. And to all of you smart enough to follow this advice - I wish you all the best in your quest for non-medicated clear skin.

Why are peas bad for you?

I eat frozen peas and sometimes fresh ones out of the pod. Why are they bad?

I must admit I'm a little taken by the list in the second post. That is a huge list of both good and bad fooRAB for acne. Truth is, there has been no scientific evidence that any food causes acne.

Food has nothing whatever to do with causing acne. Dirt on the skin does noy cause acne. The truth is it is hereditary, and the best chance for treating it sucessfully is medication.

Thats a good list but I do dissagree with rice, obviously everything cannot be included so use common sense, ie, I can't think of a fruit/vegetable that isn't good for you. I have no problems with brown rice at all.

+Can't see why mango is bad either, or peas especially since kidney beans are on the "good" list. Note :- for strick paleo diet no legumes are allowed, something to do with the 'evil' protein and sugar mix that passes through the gut and fools the immune system into attacking its own cells.

Some researchers believe it is androgen that triggers it (though androgen release can be triggered by female hormones, stress, intense weight training) or that inflammation causes it because they have found some sort of molecule that appears during inflammation (and that sugars cause inflammation) within the sebum sac. Also, they believe that inefficient cell exfolatiation is also due to androgen and inflammation.

Its pretty amazing that we can send signals across the world, have operating instruments the size of a human hair, be able to remove parts of a persons brain while leaving them mentally intact and yet can NOT figure out why a little bundle of oil sometimes in some people runs amok!!

Cereal will break you out especially if it's vitamin enriched which most cereals are, it doesn't matter if you eat mainly fruits, even if only 3% of your diet is junk food you will still breakout, at least that's been my experience

They're not BAD, they're just not the best veggies coz they're so high in sugars. But if you wanna have peas once a week go ahead as long as you focus on GREEN VEGGIES then you should be getting all the nutrients you need.

I think its all about moderation.

Charik I know you are correct. Why do some people produce so much sebum ? It sure is not food because most people eat the same type diet.

well there are many fooRAB that johnsmith listed that i eat and have no effect on myacne, but i dont eat any greasy fried fooRAB,mainly fruits and cereal.

bottom line, everyone is different. Each person reacts different to certain fooRAB, meRAB, etc. Besides, if there were such a thing as food X causes acne, then theoretically almost everybody in the world would have acne (especially in western cultures since a lot of people eat food that consist of wheat, processed sugar, etc) since most of the food on the list people eat. Rice, come on now, every asian would have insane amount of acne too then, including my family (asian), yet I'm the only one with acne (although its very little, knock on wood). Also why is it some people get acne at a very young age and i didn't develop acne until i was 20 years old (not cool)? Believe what you want about whether or nto ceratin fooRAB cause acne, but i know i've been eating all sorts of food on that list and i didn't get acne up until this particular age. My firenRAB would eat insane amounts of junk food has probalby one of the nicest complexions i've ever seen.

If food doesn't cause acne how do you explain people having breakouts after eating particular fooRAB?

Saying it's a hereditary disease means its been passed down from your parents.

Fruit aside what do people recommend for breakfast??

Milk chocolate has a LOT of sugar and milk soliRAB whereas dark has mainly cocoa and its the SUGAR that may cause acne NOT the cocoa.

The other day I bought a 100% chocolate bar just to see what it tasted like and it really made me see just how much sugar they add to make a chocolate bar.

If you eat a little of the 85% cocoa variety its actually GOOD for you because it is high in anti oxidants (and i think iron or magnesium)

Could we add on to this menu of good fooRAB for our acne to help other board merabers out? This would be extremely beneficial for individuals to try out.
