freshwater tropical...translucent looking, and appears to use caudal fins to feel vibrations. i got a couple of these fish from my uncle who's moving and was going to flush them. he didn't know what they were...i honestly don't think they're cute at all. plain looking guys, and i dont think they'll ever be "tame" like my goldfish. they're so fretful. any ideas on what specie they may be? they're long and slim looking about 4-5" long. i'll try to post pics later.
ok, maybe SOMEWHAT translucent...not to the extent of the linked pic that the 2nd reply had. and also its an elongated fish

Here's a little more help for you since most people think it's the glass catfish or ghost fish, Kryptopterus minor, it's a transparent freshwater aquarium fish. Body lengths can range up to 8 centimetres (3.1 in) in nature, but are usually less in aquarium specimens and average around 6.8 centimetres (2.7 in). This species is often misidentified as Kryptopterus bicirrhis, but K. bicirrhis may grow up to 24.5 centimetres (9.6 in) and feature more rays in its anal fin. K. bicirrhis may have been imported for sale under the name glass catfish within the last few decades, though this is no longer done.

When you say 4-5" long and slightly translucent I think 'blind cave fish'. If that was the case, though, I'd also think you'd say it has no eyes. It may also be a Glass Catfish. Or a Glass Fish which grows to around 3", but they aren't really slim like Cave and Glass Catfish.

It's not a Phantom Tetra, because they grow to be under 2in.
