What fish need heated tanks...?

White cloud mountain minnows http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/pfk/images/whitecloud1.jpg are a great choice, they have long finned varieties (meteor minnow)http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=830+881+950&pcatid=950 and golden varieties http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=830+881+952&pcatid=952.
You could also have some ghost shrimp http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=1075+1468&pcatid=1468 as they prefer cooler temps as well.
Bdeyond that (and goldies of course) just about all the other fish you'll find at your LFS will be tropical and require a heater.
Best of Luck!

I just bought a tank for my room, very small. But I want some nice fish, goldfish are boring, I wonder what kind of fish I can have without purchasing a heater?
:)

The problem is that a very small tank (less then 5 gallons) is not much of a home for any fish. Small ones, like mountain minnows or rosy red minnows, are schoolers, so you need space for several as well as room for them to actually swim around.

If your tank is under 2 gallons it's completely useless, but in a tank of 2-5 gallons you can keep a single betta. Even they thrive best in heated tanks, but will do ok at room temperature.

... none unless you are able to keep the tank at a fish toasty 72 degrees.... the only fish that can thrive with no heater really are pond fish (koi, gold fish, carp) absolutely not chichlids, or tetras, or any other tropical fish, like paddies or mollies... you can get a good hearer at walmart for very cheap like 15 bucks.... and its self regulating.... so you really should save up the money for a heater if your not a goldfish type person.....
