I have a male and ive been told i can put females with him then other people have told me i cant and that they will fight. ive also been told that most fish i cant put with him because he will kill them.. i don't want to buy a fish that someone tells me he will be fine with, and they he kills it... can some one help!!

if you could tell me specific names of fish i could put with him that would be great!

Do not put another Betta in with him, male or female.
You don't say how big your tank is. I'll assume it's 10 gallons. You can add 3 Corydora catfish (must be kept in groups of 3 or more). They are amusing to watch, and I've never had a Betta mind being homed with them. They also clean up any uneaten food from the bottom of the tank, keeping it clean for you.
If your tank is only 5 gallons, you could add 2 Platies, but that's pushing it. I've had Platies and Bettas together lots of times, and they've always gotten along well.
Do not add any fish that have long flowing fins or tails (such as fancy Guppies). A Betta can mistake them for another Betta and attack.
If your tank is less than 5 gallons, you really shouldn't add any more fish. You could maybe add a few ghost shrimp or something. I don't keep snails in Betta tanks, I have heard horror stories of the Bettas eating the snails alive. I honestly don't know if they will bother shrimp or not, I've never kept them together.
These are my best suggestions from my own experience. Hope they help.

you can put anything bigger then the fighting fish something that it cant eat it depends on how big it is just find a fish that is bigger than the fighting fish but nothing smaller and not another fighting fish

same problem to male bettas need to be alone if you want more fish but a seperate tank or wait till he dies but plz dont kill him thats not right.........

They will fight to the death. Even when you are after a spawn, the second the spawning is finished the fish must be separated.

Their is no reason to put any other fish with your Betta. They are solitary fish and live alone in rice paddies. They remain alone for a reason.

Some people put snails in their tanks and I've heard of White Clouds. I wouldn't bother, tho.
