What fish can betta fish live with?

Because of your tank size another fish is not an option. You could however try a few ghost shrimp or some snails.

While an air pump is unnecessary, you should have a gentle filter and aquarium heater for your betta.

Upgrading to a ten gallon aquarium would give you more options. I keep one of my male bettas in a ten gallon with a school of harlequin rasboras, and four ghost shrimp.
 
Hello, I got a male betta fish a while ago and I was wondering what kind of fish I could put in there with him. Yes I know, they can't live with other bettas! But if you do suggest me getting another type of fish, keep in mind that I don't have one of those oxygen pumps! Or should I just let my betta live by himself?
NOTE: the tank is almost three gallons
