What features does the 2006 chevy equinox lose when removeing the factory stereo?

i removed the factory stereo from my chevy equinox 06 and people were telling me that when removing it i would lose features without replacing it with the right harness that has the chimes

the guy told me it lost the check engine light but i think that he just wanted to sell me the 150 dollar wire harness with the little chime adaptar
my question is what features does it lose?
 
as in any car- ability to control stereo from the steering wheel.
teh guy that said that about the check engine light- wolf on sheeps clothing, a thief. Do not do business with him/her. to retain teh controls lost, just buy an adapter. call crutchfield.com to get details and a good radio. great customer service.
