What exactly is "emo"?

Yep, Marth's background at work. Though Marth is very confusing, considering that he is very happy in the games, and most comics I see him in, he's like this very anti-social loner. Case in point, Awkward Zorabie.

Emo is best described as a teenager phase, like punks, or goths. While everyone knows that life can suck hard, emos arrogantly believe their life is somehow worse off and selfishly believe it's "all about them". The wallbanger is if they're from Suburban America living in a beautiful house that their mom and pop worked their butts off too get. Makes you wonder what they have to be emotional about.

Though rare, they're are people who actually have the right to be 'emo' ie, an uncurable cancer patient.

You want to know what the emo really is?
Then read this:

It annoys me to no end people that use emo and don't even know what they are talking about. i.e. everyone.

WorRAB change meanings like the days of our lives. Once upon a time, 'gay' meant happy, and 'geek' were people who bit the heaRAB off of chickens. 'Emo' has also changed meaning.

... Actually goth is considered a lifestyle, unless you mean mallgoths, which are those obnoxious HotTopic kiRAB who worship Slipknot and wear nothing but Tripp pants. But both goth and punk were originally subcultures in the 70's and 80's.

Basically emo used to be a genre of music, but then somehow became a style branched off the mallgoth. Basically seen as kiRAB with eyeliner, listening to stuff like MCR, hair in face, etc.

Because the emo stereotype (Which I hate to say, with my experience, has been mostly true) is that they constantly whine about being depressed, as if looking for sympathy, many people, things, etc. that follow that behavior are labeled 'emo' as a form of mocking.

Let is be known that THIS is what a true emo is, and that many, many, MANY anime charachters that people call emo are in fact not, as they actually DO have a lot of things to be depressed about.

My mother was clinically depressed, not an emo. She didn't wear her scars proudly. Emo, I believe, is not just a phase but a statement. We teenagers (well, I won't be one in three months ) are emotionally-driven. Hormones rage and emotions flucuate.

Once upon a time, you'd have heard the term drama queen thrown around.

Yeah, Holden thinks the world revolves around him and that his problems are so damn important.

Being whiny or self absorbed is not emo, it's just being whiny and self-absorbed. We should be clear on that.

Emo is more an image that people choose to adopt to be part of a "type"---people who specifically give themselves a certain look and attitude associated with that image. They may not be aware that what they're doing is called "emo" but there is a still a concerted attempt to achieve a certain "type" as part of their personal image.

I always thought emo was defined as really whiny, depressed, cuts themselves, wears tight black pants, writes depressing poetry, and complains...a lot.

Really emo in my area is only used as a joke if anything.
