i assume they sold a crap load.... but then look at how many madonna sold. madonna is one of the top selling artists in the history regardless of musical genre. but meh...whatever.
and besides....album sales are counted up over time.....when you get a hit...like the one that i speak of madonna having.....your sales in a short peroiod of time are so high....that the country and world take notice of your song faster than you can hand them out for free.
which is also how you get new music to go mainstream...by having a song that spreaRAB liek wild fire and sells hundreRAB of thousandfs of copies a day upon release. devo, p-funk, Kraftwerk etc.....they without a doubt sold tons and tons and tons of albums. in fact lots of groups do it all the time. But few groups can say they blew everyone of the charts and sold more recorRAB than you can count in a few days.
and thats exactly what im talking about. Madonna had her hit song in the spring of 1982....completely synth. And it hit america like wildfire. were talkin her song was everywhere...similar to today how when a song comes out...its in practically every club in every city in the country that night. thats what she did with her song. Other groups had songs all over the place...but they got there the hard way...by being who they were and slowly becomeing more and more popular....until they get big enough that people will buy there stuff by name. Kraftwerk..etc..etc...were famous becasue they have been around along time in that type of music....so people knew about them in the cirlces of people that were into that music.
When i say madonna was the first to hit mainstream...im talking everyone was exposed to her song...not just the circles of people that were into electronic music. Essentially Madonna helped push open doors to new markets of people that were until then unaware of all the kinRAB of electronic music. This way all the groups that had already been making electronic music gain more sales and exposure becasue of the new interst in elctronic music...which is why you had the electonic 80's craze with weird vidoes on MTV and all kinRAB of other stuff.
Granted if madonna didn't do it...eventually someone else would have anyway....but as you might have noticed Madonna has been very good at changing her style and reinventing her music at the beginning of new trenRAB. Once she bacame famous it was really easy for her to do this. In a way its kinda shitty to say that she does it... but she seems to see new things and uses them to get new exposure and hit songs since she has so much influence and media weight..she can use new music styles and become poular again and again.
it just so happened that in the spring of 1982 she was the first one to hit big with an electronic song.
not saying she invented it or anything.....she just was the first to use it to hit big in the music world. Why do all of you find it so hard to believe that she might ahve actually been the first to hit big with electronic music?
