What exactly is a labor camp?

I've been reading about the american journalists lately that have been held as hostages and reporters have said on the news something about "labor camps." it's been mentioned often and I don't really understand the concept of what that is.
 
It's a place pregnant ladies go to learn about Lamaze, you know, birthing.
Hence the name "labor camp".
 
its a prison or holding area that restricts the activities of its residents. they are forced to do manual labour instead of it being an option to keep them quiet
 
A Labor Camp, which were used a lot during World War 2 is when they take the hostages or whoever they are trying to exterminate and make them work to death. They wouldn't usually work the old people or little children. Pretty much they make the people work extremely hard then give them little food. They wanted to do this because it was free labor and they got people to work to death.
