I've been fascinated by Arabic and Middle Eastern cultures. It all started when I got into belly dancing when I was 18. Since then, I've learned that the culture is highly misunderstood. There are different dialects and languages, different sects of Islam, and most of the Middle Eastern countries have been ravaged by warfare in the past 3 decades. I keep picking up novels and memoirs that take place and revolve around Middle Eastern cultures. (I'm almost done with "The Kite Runner" and I'll probably move on next to "Funny in Farsi" or "Things I've Been Silent About.")

Pirates and gypsies are interesting, too. Gypsies also have a rich culture unbeknownst to most.
