I used to camp with my two German Shepherds in Colorado, in the high country and remote. They had a blast. We had many nocturnal visits by moose, elk, and and once, a cougar, and they were fine. Obviously food and water is a basic requirement, but absolute obedience to common commands, especially to return to you unquestioningly is critical. If he/she will not, you could have real problems. If you tent camp, that's where you are most in control, and your pup can't wander. If you open air camp, you may want to ci=onsider a long leader for your peace of mind. Really, it all depends on where you camp. I don't think my pups would be as happy or behave appropriately in a crowded "camp" ground, which really isn't camping anyway.
If your dog is off leash qualified around strangers and other animals, you should have no issues. Have a great time!
