My family is interested getting a dog if we move houses. The house we are looking at has a rather small backyard but is pretty secure, especially if we build some fences.
The problem is, my parents will be absent from the house most the time because they have full-time jobs. I will be absent from the house during the times of 8am-4pm on weekdays because I'm a student. My sister will be absent from home from time to time but usually is there till noon.
I have heard that most dogs require a lot of human interaction and I'm worried that if we get one, it might get lonely because there will not be anyone home for around 40 hours a week, if not more. I don't think my parents will be eager to get another dog so they can be company to each other so that won't solve the problem too.
Please give me some guidance if you have owned a dog or you own one.
Note: My dad and I really would like to get a Border Collie because we admire their intelligence and friendliness but after researching, I found out that they need a lot of human interaction to be happy.
