For some reason he thinks that his singing has magical powers. He admires your smooth forehead. And he thinks his singing smooths out the rough places on earth. The third and fourth lines of the first stanza mean that gulches and brambles get smoothed out, not that your forehead has gulches and brambles.

Suavidades by Gabriela Misral

English:

When I am singing to you,
on earth all evil ends:
as smooth as your forhead
are the gulch and the bramble

when I am singing to you,
for me all cruel things end:
as gentle as your eyelids,
the lion with the jackal

(Original) Spanish:

Cuando yo te estoy contando
En la tierra ecaba el mal
Todo es dulce portus sienes
La barranca el espinar!

Cuando yo te estoy contando
Se me acaba el crueldad
Suaves Son, como tus parpados
La Leona, y el chacal

I just want to know what it means, I didn't get it on the first stanza, 3rd and 4th line.
