What does this french quote mean? "Il faut que je supporte deux..."?

"Il faut que je supporte deux ou trois chenilles si je veux connaitre les papillons." (Le Petit Prince, Chapitre 9)

In English,
I must endure the presence of two or three caterpillars if I wish to become acquainted with the butterflies.

so what is this philosophy mean? if someone can explain what it means thatd be great!
