S stickyfingeredurchin Guest Nov 13, 2008 #2 I'm sure someone will give you a better answer than this but 'blank' refers to the chunk of material that the rod is to be manufactured from,before anything's done to it. A rod maker could take a blank and make different varieties of rods from it.
