What does this comment from Obama mean?

Obama made this comment sunday, in Oregon. Was he just talkin smack to the tree hugging hippies of Oregan? Are we supposed to live like Ethiopians or Kenyans? How does he want us to live?

Are we supposed to live our lives uncomfortably because the poor countries in the world might get upset?
Is it anyones business what my thermostat is set at aslong as I pay my bills?
 
Your thermostat affects the rest of the planet, so YES, it is our business. We don't have to live uncomfortably, just RESPONSIBLY. Turning your thermostat down 2 degrees in winter and up 2 degrees in summer is NOT difficult or uncomfortable. EVERYONE has a responsibility to pitch in and do their part to lessen their impact on the planet.
