what does sony need to do/offer to make the ps3's price worth it?

The only thing I really want to see that hasn't been announced yet is mouse/keyboard support, though I don't think that will be a problem given the linux integration.

Also as many games as possible running in 1080p

Games are the biggest thing for me. Except for some multiplayer games on PS2 I didn't really like the system all that much.

I doubt I'll get one at all, not because of Sony hate but just because Wii looks more innovative and money saving.

For 600 smackeroonies, it better come with a hooker. Honestly, i agree, it MIGHT be worth 500 if it came with keyboard/mouse support for FPS games and a good online setup.

This price point is really gonna hurt Sony.

I mean, just for the system and one game, with tax....you're looking at over $700. Throw in an extra controller...and you're knocking on the door of $800. It's rediculous.

I think it will need to include more than 1 game, or perhaps certificates for games that you can pick out (so they don't put shitty games in the bundle) along with multiple controlers. That's at a minimum.

I was looking forward to the PS3, but the price has me wondering. The cost is going to screw them with the teenage market along with small kids who like to play games. I don't see too many parents rushing out to drop $600+ on this fucking thing.

For what it is, thats a good price. Consoles are becoming more and more like PCs now. Try walking otu the door with a good PC for less than 800 dollars that can play those type of games w/ that type of graphics

I think $600 just for the console is going to be too much for most parents and people to pay. When you consider you have to pay money for more controllers, a game and tax; the price goes too high for probably 75% of the people who want to buy it.

Since it will take time for most developers to figure out how to develop good games on the thing, it is probably better to wait a year or two for the price to come down. When the price comes down, the developers will probably be starting to really take advantage of the PS3's power.

But it's more than just a spec sheet comparison. $600 for a game system...is outrageous. Whether it comes with Blu-Ray or not. Most (if not all) people will be buying this because it's a PS3, a game machine...that just happens to also play Blu-Ray movies (because the discs really do nothing for the games). Not because it's an "inexpensive" Blu-Ray player...that just happens to also play games. You add a couple games, an extra controller...now you're paying over $800. It's too much.

Not really. It was $300 at launch, so was the Xbox. The original Playstation launched for $300, and the Saturn $400. The Dreamcast launched at $200, so did the N64, and Gamecube. So when the PS2 launched a $200-400 price tag was to be expected. Some people may not have wanted to pay $300....but it was nothing like what's happening with the PS3 now.

I wouldn't be surprised if they dropped the complete system to $499 at the last minute, to make it look like they're doing us a favor. I'll buy it regardless though

Well its value as well, if its worth 600 to you then buy it, if not then don't. Personally I like the idea of the Wii alot better but i'll eventually get all 3 consoles when I have the money, but by then the NEXT next-gen will be coming out.
