What does polyclonal hypergammaglobulinemia mean?

First, you have to take out the prefix "hyper" which mean excessive. Then you have the "gammaglobulin" that is one of the proteins of the body that help our body immune system fight infections - along with the "White blood cells." Usually there is an inbalance between "red blood cells, or "white blood cells," as well as "gammaglobulin" respectively, also like higher or lower blood pressure - for example - of what it is considered normal. Hypergammaglobulin, refers to
higher than normal, and "hypogammaglobulin" means lower than normal - like hypotension means lower than normal blood pressure. If you have hypergammaglobulin proven by a blood test, consider yourself blessed - infections-wise.

Hypergammaglobulinemia, polyclonal. Mean multiple things........ Polyclonal means that more than one type of gammaglobulin is elevated (there are 4 IgG,IgA,IgM,IgE that are usually tested for). This is NOT necessarily a good thing. I am sure further testing was performed after this diagnosis. Polyclonal seems to be the one type of hypergammaglobulinemia you want to have, if you are going to have any of them.

I thought I should come back and update this. Apparently, I did not have a super infection fighting immune system. I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease based on blood work. I am scheduled for a biopsy this month. My body was destroying my intestines, not fighting disease.
