What does mechanic want my car for?

I have a 1995 Chevy Lumina with 164,000 miles on it. I drove a few miles without a belt and when I tried to start it again it wouldn't. I was told I need a belt tensioner and belt which I got replaced. I was hoping all I would need is a battery to get this running and a shop said they put one in but it still doesn't start. They told me I need an alternator and starter for $350. I didn't feel I want to sink anymore money into the car and I said I guess I will just junk it. A mechanic then said he buys them and will give me $100 for it. I didn't know if that is a fair offer or not. The guy asked for my phone number and the car is at the shop. I feel I should get about $300 for the car. Does the mechanic want the car so he can fix it and drive it or does he want it for something else? Should I just sell this car and how much should I get for it?

he wants to rip you out of it so he can fix it and sell it and make a hefty profit. you should ask more then 100 bucks for it. heck if you drive it to the junk yard they will give you more then that. i say fix it and sell if for around at least $ 750.00.
