Two Word Answer: ALTERNATIVE ENERGY.

My brother's wife worked for Toyota's USA Headquarters in Florida as an accountant for nearly 20 years. She just got laid off last week due to the economy causing Toyota to lose money for the first time in 50 years. Maybe by the time you get there, things will have turned around. Good Luck!

Designing and building are NEVER done by the same person within a large company like Toyota.

Even within design, all the skill sets are divided (i.e. - a good sketch artist will sketch, a clay modeler will make clays).

Engineers are each assigned very small roles, and starting out you'll be building hub-caps and lug-nuts. If you're lucky and skillful, you may get to build a suspension component, but you'll never get any credit for it. (engineers do most of the thinking, but get no credit).

and the people who "actually" build the cars? underpaid biotches who do a single job over and over until they get so bored they accidentally saw off their hand, becoming unemployable and destitute.

The auto industry "dream job" is just a dream, and soon -- thanks to this economy -- they'll all be in China, Russia or Mexico anyway.

Think about working for YOURSELF, if you're really that motivated.

my 2 cents.
