What does it take to convert the EFI-IV to a EFI ignition on a 1990 Ford Ranger?

I have a 1990 Ranger, 2.3 4 cylinder. Couldn't find a motor that came out of a 1990 or newer. Found one out of a 1987 that was rebuilt, but the ignition is way different. The truck has the EFI-IV and the motor has the EFI with the distributor. When the other motor blew,there was no warning, messed up the block and the head is unrepairable, just going down the road at 50mph in 5th gear. I have the Chilton book on Rangers, no help there. Any help would be great!
