Hi! I was just wondering if anyone knew what it takes to become an author. Like I mean what education do you need, is the salary good, ect. Any info about becoming an author is greatly appreciated!!! Even if ur not sure any ideas are welcome!! Thanks~!

In one word determination. A degree and then a masters in creative writing, print journalism or english would help but you actually don't need any formal 3rd level education. What happens is you write your story and then you send in a snoypsis and the first two to three chapters of your book to as many publishers as possible. When you do this the book does not haave to be completely finished but it need to be in the editing stage. Anyway publishers get TONNES of manuscripts all the time so contacts in publishing are helpful but not vital- it just takes time!! When and if they decide to publish your book they will probley give you tens of thousands (it varies) however they can give you a deal saying you write three book we'll pay you this much for them etc. It's down to pure talent in the end if you're going to have a chance of getting published but one of the best things is that in most countries including ireland anyway people officially recognised for something like writing or painting does not have to pay taxes. So all the money you earn is tax free!! You get every peney but of course you have to be published first so all your months of hard work writing the book will go on paid. If you are moderately sucsessful you will have enought money to live on and a- little -bit more.

You need to have a strong love of books--in order to become a good writer.

A solid grasp of the English language is a plus. Added, you also have to have strong reading and writing skills.

You also have to have good multi-tasking abilities, strong attention to detail, and a talent for storytelling.

This doesn't mean that you have to practice with your teddy bear in front of a mirror every day--but you have to have the skill to capture people's interest in what you're doing or writing and be able to hold them with your creative imagination.

Don't be afraid to experiment or fail. Just be a writer.

Well to be an author you need perserverance. Books will be rejected. you could make thousands and even millions of dollars for one book. take Twilight for an example. You could take writing classes and stuff. you also need SKILLS!

I think your readers need to be able to vizualize the moment perfectly- and be drawn in by every sentence.

The first and most important factor, in being a writer, is being disciplined like an Olympic athlete. Next, and almost equally important is having some talent to work with. Third most important factor is not giving up. After that, it is pretty much up to the literary gods..

I hope this helps
