What does it take to become a dance teacher?

I have been dancing for as long as I can remember. It is my life, my passion, my everything. I'm a junior in high school so i'm starting to decide what I want to do after I graduate, and I really want to own a dance studio and teach dance. I do jazz, tap, ballet, lyrical, hip hop, pretty much everything except pointe. What do I need to do to become a dance teacher? Do I just major in dance in college? Do I do more than that?

Are there any good dance major colleges in either Alabama, Florida, Georgia, or North Carolina?

And how can I talk to my parents about this? I have mentioned it before, but not in a while. My parents want me to be a doctor or something like that, but it is not my passion. They don't think it would be a worthwhile career and help me do well financially, but I disagree.

Continue dancing for sure. And look up colleges that specialize in dancing or the arts. Explain to your parents that dancing is something that you really want to do. If you take time to look up studios to teach at and colleges to attend they might be so impressed that they willi accept your decision.

I am telling you this as a fellow dancer!

Good luck ...

And keep dancing!!!

It depends where you want to teach at, but some dance teacher, that is a part time thing and they work somewhere else, so i do not believe you have to major in dance.
About the parents thing, im sure your parents will love you no matter what you choose to do with your life.
If you have a passion for dance, stick with it, Never back down!
