What does it mean when your ex talks to you but doesn't want to hang out?

He was my first bf and kiss and I was his first gf. we had a mutual break up. we stay friends and we talk a lot and then less and now its just how are you and stuff. he told me was that he had no time to hang out in the summer and will see me in the fall. but he ask other people to hang out. Do I give him more time? it been 6 months since we broke up. We are both 18
