What does it mean when the Sony Reader has a negative sign on it?

I was trying to type in my password on my Sony Reader. I would press the button and it wouldn't do anything. Finally, I noticed it had a little circle with a negative sign (-) in the corner. It was fully charged so I know it can't be that. What does this mean? Please help. Thank you!
