what does it mean when one of the little red lights is on on my xbox 360?

so my little brothers got me an xbox 360 for christmas! and the other day my boyfriend and i were going to play rockband 2 and when we turned it on 1 of the 3 little red lights were one...and i know that when all three of the red lights are on that means that u gotta get the repair kit and whatever....but what does it mean if only one of the redlights is on?
