What does it mean when my1997 Mazda MPV chugs when I press the excellerator to get

up hills or go faster? It doesn't do this driving around town, but when we took a drive the other day it started doing this when we were going up a hill. That seemed to be the only time it would chug...going up hill trying to speed up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
 
Fuel pump. When you go up hill there is a change of load. Your computer senses that and tells the fuel pump it needs more gas. So it starts pumping more pressure. But when it chugs up hill then you might want to replace the fuel filter. It may be dirty and its not letting the gas pass more when driving up hill.
