Here's what happened. The timing chain broke on my 2002 Oldsmobile Alero resulting in a damaged cylinder head. Instead of getting a new cylinder head I got a used engine installed from a 2003 Grand Am. The mechanic just told me he installed the engine but that the car is running really rough and needs to be recalibrated. I asked him what that meant and all he said was that it means it needs to be 're-set'. Do you think having it recalibrated will actually improve the way it runs? It's another $100 to have this done - after paying over $2000 for the engine and having it installed. Does anyone know? Thanks for your help.
You are being fed a line of crap. Your engine is supposed to run normally after installation. If it does not then mechanic did something wrong and needs to finish the job he/she was already paid for.
These days cars do not have timing adjustments, as mentioned above.
