What does it mean if someone gives you their business card on the bus?

Ok so I was on the bus today talking to a friend about a course in filmmaking I was thinking of doing and when I finished a guy, who was sat in front of me, gave me his business card. The guy works at the BBC, in a different field to my speciality (which is science) but for a rather big show. What exactly does this mean? I've sent him an email but I'm not entirely sure what to expect... should I be excited?
 
NO!! Remember you got this card off someone who was on the bus!
If it happens, it happens. If it doesn't, it doesn't. Don't get too excited so you wont be too bummed if it don't come thru!
 
Network Network network!!!! And I don't mean a TV Network. I mean a network of people that can help you. These days its all about who you know not just what you know. Defiantly make contact and see what his interest is in you. You never know where this might lead either now ir even in the future. Good Luck
