What does it mean if a guy is a "ranger" in the army?

I met an american guy who said he was in the army (this put me off, I'm a medic) and then he said "oh but I'm a ranger", haha, so what is a ranger? Is it any different from the types that I've seen acting like idiots on youtube?
 
The rangers are highly trained elite light infantry, special operations and such.

There are more guys that say they're rangers than there are actual rangers.
 
Best light infantry in the world... Enough said.

They'll go in and do what needs to be done so the other folk can get their job done.
 
100% sure this guy isn't a Ranger.
Most people will tell you don't date Rangers or Airborne or Infantrymen. But, honestly most guys I know that fall into those categories are good people and Soldiers. I'd worry about the ones that aren't in those groups.
