What does Conventions mean in media?

I am doing a independent learning course for grade 12 university english. One of the questions in my text book is "What two conventions will you use (for example, technical, symbolic, and/or written)?"
I have to design a advertisement so that people can buy my product I am selling. Exept, I do not know what the word conventions mean, so i am unable to answer my question.
