What do your parents think of anime?

Father - Knows I like it but doesn't pay it much mind mind and let me be.
Mother - Same.
Younger brother - Not as much of an anime fan as I am, but enjoyed Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, FMA, DBZ, and Slayers. Will watch anime that interest him though, but that's few and far inbetween.
Younger sister - Doesn't really care.

Since my parents don't really know that much English, they view anime with the same regard as other shows they can't understand (which is slightly below neutral). So aside from the few instances where they confuse shows like Death Note and Evangelion with Pokemon, they don't mind much.

At first, my mom didn't care. But when she saw some of the uncut episodes of DB(Z), she was a little surprise.

Now, she's getting in to death note and FMA. Not buying the DVD's or stuff, but when it airs on T.V, she'll watch it.

But when my mom saw me watching Hentai....She couldn't stop laughing.

Damn me and my perv self thats in me.

Both of my parents think that anime is no different from any other form of animation. They think that anime is for children, and they believe that I am far too old to be watching it. They think that I waste all of my time watching anime or reading manga and comic books and should hurry and grow up to instead focus on my college studies. They're in the wrong there because I work full time, go to college with a full class load, and still manage to find a small amount of time to enjoy myself. To be honest, I've grown to not really care whether they like it or not. I tried explaining the different styles and levels of anime that exist for different age groups, demographics, etc. I tried showing them the Oscar award winning Spirited Away, but their opinion remains the same. Sometimes, you can't teach an old dog new tricks, I guess.

Well, sadly my mom is still of the mind that nothing Japanese is good, so we watch nothing together. It's all "weird" to her. If my dad were alive, I know he'd like it. He'd been all over the place, and I think he went to Okinawa once. He got me into using chopsticks.

My sister probably watches more anime than I do. My mom likes a lot of anime; used to watch a lot of AS and if she has the time/attention she'll sit down to watch whatever me and my sister are into. My dad's pickier; not really into a lot of the weirder comedies or serials that he'll often say are "good, but a bit too slow", but he has an open mind about stuff and likes Death Note, Bebop, FMA, Kenshin, EVA, Miyazaki movies, and some other stuff as well.

My parents really don't care and it would probably be a fight just to get them to sit down and watch something with me (I actually tried to get my mom to watch Spirited Away but she freaked when I told her what it was about ). I never expect them to give me anime related presents for Christmas or my birthday, so I'm on my own if there's a lot I want to buy. And I make sure I'm not watching anime if I know one of them is around - if they walk in on me they'll usually break into what I call "Fake Japanese" (which really sounRAB more like Chinese gibberish ).

At one point my sister actually accused me of watching "Asian porn," and I was completely thrown. Uh, how about not even close?

My mom HATES anime, and I don't blame her, because my brother enjoys watching any anime he wants in front of his relatives, even ecchi if grandma was over. (It happened... she was disturbed, I could tell, I felt bad. XD)

My mom says she finRAB it annoying and hates the animation and thinks that they don't even really move or talk, they just open their mouths without forming worRAB. I kinda found that funny how she mentioned that honestly. Although she supports me making my own cartoon, even giving suggestions that seem appropiate for a mild adult cartoon, which makes me feel pretty happy though. XD

My family's more of those who draw no distinctions between Japanese or American animation and think anything from Powerpuff Girls to Family Guy to Cowboy Bebop was made for six-year-olRAB. Their tastes in TV shows is absolutely hideous though so I don't really pay them any mind.

Father: Went to Anme Boston '07 with me, but doubt he could care less.
Mother: Listens if I'm stuck ranting on a topic () and may watch some scenes with me.. but doesn't really get into it.

Ooh, funny story time..
I was recording an episode of Eureka 7 off of AS, so I turned the tv off & then went to bed. The next morning, my mom goes "Why was that girl slicing up humans?"
By the end of the day, I figured out that she woke up, flipped it on & caught the Blood+ premiere by accident.

Sister: Just like me, but doesn't watch subbed versions of stuff.

My father was a fan of Speed Racer, though he didn't know what an anime was. My mother, and my sister, aren't much fans of animation.

All in honesty, I tend to keep it away from them. I find it better that they don't know.

My dad is olRABchool, he constantly assumes that due to my hobby of watching anime, i havent really grown up. He thinks i need to focus more on my studies and not watch any anime! my mom used to pronounce dbz, as dragon bah z, and would constantly get annoyed by their voices lol! While i was watching the last episode of cowboy bebop, we know how rough that episode can get, she totally was shocked and in awe as to spike and ever1 killing each other, and then when spike dies and that background song comes on she then said i was crazy. They dont understand anything, they liked the movie the punisher and my dad liked the dark knight, but due to their language barrier i dont think anime would be something they could ever understand, all they see is a cartoon looking show. Or girls with big anime eyes!

I remeraber having a conversation with them a few weeks about Anime. My dad hates that a lot because not it's violent, but because the eyes are disproportioned and too bigger than the normal. I say that Disney did a lot too but at least, they studied anatomy eyes before make in progress.

It's just weird at my opinion i know. But my dad was a end-60's teenager.

Funny story: One time during a break when I was at home for a few days, I had nothing to do on a night, so my dad was looking through the TV guide and wondered if I should try out "Only Yesterday", which was airing on TCM at the time. I said, "Yep, I know it's on".

He didn't watch it with me, but came downstairs partway through just to see what it was like. Just my luck, though: He came in at a scene when two kiRAB are blankly staring at each other from across the street, IIRC. Little dialog at all. It wouldn't surprise me if he thought the whole movie was like that.
