What do your parents think of anime?

For those of you who either still live with your parents or had your parents introduced to anime, what do they think of it?

I honestly don't know. I don't think they've ever sat down and watched any with me. And my dad's only experience with it was happening to stay at a hotel on the same weekend as a cosplay convention. Hehe.

I do know my sister hates it, though.

Both have differing openions, My dad thinks their silly & My mom thinks their too Violent, Yet both respect my right to Watch & enjoy the Medium, Of course that could be becuase I don't have much longer to live with my parents with college coming up after this summer....

I think my mom thinks its weird but she doesn't mind my watching it.

My dad, on the other hand, loved Cowboy Bebop and I realized that my dad likes anime that have no humor in it so he ended up liking Gundam 00 and Death Note and I plan to show him Evangelion next. Now, I shall force him to watch Kamen Rider with me!

Interestingly enough, I showed him Gundam SEED once and he fell asleep

My Mom sees no distinction between Anime and regular old American cartoons, so she thinks (or just assumes) that their childish and thinks i should spend my time doing other stuff befitting my age, like dating and all that. Dad, don't really know, he lives far away (il assume the same as mom).

My parents seem to be pretty cool with it. Heck, lately my dad has been watching more anime than I have thanks to Hulu. My mom keeps up with Hellsing and Trinity Blood manga, and the Trinity Blood light novels. Both thoroughly enjoyed Outlaw Star, Samurai Champloo, Samurai 7, Cowboy Bebop, Big O, Planetes and the Ghibli film library. Heck, we even all watched Onegai Teacher together.

However, having parents who avidly watched Dr. Who, Red Dwarf, The various Star Trek series and such probably explains a lot.

My mom thinks it's all huge bouncing boobs because of the one scene of an anime she ever saw (awful moment, by the way, as the show wasn't an overly fanservicey show at all), and my dad thinks it's all Dragonball Z. Anytime he sees me watching anime he asks why I'm still watching Dragonball Z, lmao.

My dad doesn't really care about anything I watch really.

My mom thinks it's all fanservice, since she keeps witnessing the most inappropriate moments (Naruto's sexy jutsu, Misa's flirting games in Death Note, all of Ranma 1/2).

Oh ho, funny story. OKAY my first year away at art school my sister - who was still living at home - stared watching FMA on Adult Swim (I still haven't seen the whole series >.

My father, for all intents and purposes, is a man-child to an extent I aspire, watching cartoons and the Three Stooges and comic book movies all the time. Though he hasn't really watched any anime (except for Speed Racer and Kiraba the White Lion and such back in the day), he has no real qualms with it... though he does enjoy mocking the intensely Japanese names. Like Rurouni Kenshin, which he insists on pronouncing as Rurouni Tension.

My mother, on the other hand, has watched a few episodes of One Piece, which she enjoys. She's not as big into cartoons and such, but she can really get into when she wants to. I've shown her some of my favorites as the DVRAB come in... she teared up during Zoro's backstory, and, oh, I loved this - during Nami's flasrabroadack episodes, it got to the part where
Arlong shoots Bellemere in front of Nami and Nojiko
and she looked over at me and, once he had done so, said "Wow, that guy's a real piece of (you-know-what), isn't he!?"

It was surprising and awesome to hear. Because he totally is.

She finRAB the over sexual references, tobacco use, violence, and HOLY CRAP BIG MOUTHS odd and, at times, disturbing, though. Can't win 'em all.

........wow.....

Well, I've got nothing. Your mom's awesome.

That reminRAB me of the time my dad was fortunate enough to find a hentai...

....Ah....the memories...and screaming....

We've had this discussion a few times in the past, but:

Dad- Never really got it. He's seen snippets of stuff, like the Ocean dub of Gohan going SSJ 2 which he made fun of. Also came in on me watching CCA once and seemed interested up until Amuro's "Get out of here! Gundam's power will-"

Mum- Varies. She's never really seen any of the stuff I watch or read and she had the wrong idea in general. Brilliant example- she thought that Gundam was like Transformers and was about living human scale robots who are divided between goodies and baddies. In an argument though she's quick to blast my hobbies.

Sister- Much like my mum, only with much less tolerance. On a rare good day she's expressed interest but her overriding opinion is it's all kiRAB stuff that she's convinced I'm just very slow on growing out of.

I'd say they could tolerate it. Had they watched more, they'd probably liked some, but their general taste is that they have bad stories (not all of them). As I keep going down the line, I might end up being in the same boat as they are.

They don't really care if something's violent or anything. Though, they do question fanservice (and so do I).

My entire family is most definitely not into anime. My dad is vocally against it, thinking it's silly and stupid. My mom, while she enjoyed Spirited Away and sat through Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal with me and liked it, really isn't interested. She's more tolerant of my hobby than the rest of my family, though. My brother and sister both constantly make fun of it. They all refuse to buy me anime for my birthday or Christmas as well.

My dad is a big classic sci fi anime fan stuff like Robotech and Evangelion is his favorite he kind of likes gundam too. My mom on the other hand well......... she pronounces Naruto "Na-RU-2" so I know my mom not a fan esspecialy of "PokemAns"

My dad doesn't have much issue with it, because some of the shows he grew up with such as Speed Racer and Gigantor are anime too. Plus, he's into Science Fiction himself, which is his own geeky guilty pleasure. My mom is neutral on it. My sister, though, happens to like anime as much as I do. Actually, she kinda got into it a little bit before I even did, by watching Sailor Moon.
