Niagara Falls

Splash! Whoosh! The sound of roaring water tumbling over the white faded rocks has never seemed so exhilarating to me. Our summer family trip to Canada was anything less than dull. Through the cries, yells, and laughs, I always thought it was nothing my eight-year old self couldn't handle. During this vacation, I found out a lot about myself and my family's nature. Though at times it may have been stressful, it will be a memory that I will always cherish.

In the beginning of our trip, my family and I felt excited and anxious to explore Canada. We spent the next several days traveling around to different famous tourists’ spots, mostly throughout Toronto (Ontario's capital and largest city). We visited a variety of museums, the CN tower (one of the world's tallest towers on Earth), and Chinatown. Though seeing all these places were wonderful, nothing was as incredible as witnessing Niagara Falls.

I was in a terrible mood that day. I didn't get a good night’s sleep, my sister was bugging me in the car the whole day, and I was starving. I was anything but enthusiastic about seeing the legendary waterfall. My parents and siblings eagerly waited to go buy the tickets, but I just sulkingly followed. My mind was focused elsewhere: on the delicious aromas circulating through the plaza, the blazing heat of the mid-morning sun, and my underlying tiredness. After purchasing the tickets, waded through the crowd of people to get on the famous Niagara Falls boat tour, Maid of the Mist.

By this time, I was slowly starting to get more anxious. We all put on our blue ponchos and got onto the boat. We heard the guide's loud voice over the speakers, explaining the history of Niagara Falls. I learned that about 600,000 gallons of water are poured into the Niagara River per second and Niagara Falls is the second largest waterfall on Earth, the first being Victoria Falls in South Africa. A surge of excitement rushed through me as the boat began to move, and the wind started to pick up. When the boat reached close to the bottom of the waterfalls everyone could feel the power of the falls by the incredible mist and loud roar of water. It was one of the most amazing things I have seen in my life. I felt the cool water on my face, and could taste the mist on my tongue. The sunlight glistened over the foam casting a faint rainbow across the cascading water. It was breathtaking. My family felt the same. Throughout the tour, I completely forgot about how hungry I was, how upset I was, and how tired I felt. When the boat docked into the pier, I felt disappointed, like the feeling you get when you’re watching a great movie that you don't want to end, but then the credits finally roll. If only I could I would relive that experience over and over.

I learned a lot that day, and not just about one of the most well known waterfalls in the world. I realized a bad mood could bring me down, but exciting experiences can bring them back up. I also learned that my family forgives me no matter what, even when I’m at my worst. I felt awful about only caring about myself when I should have known how it affected people around me. Seeing the famous waterfall up close will definitely be a memory that I will treasure forever.

Im in eighth grade btw. what would you rate it out of 10 stars? any suggestions to make it better? ty!
