i've just finished high school and reflecting upon my studies, i find that the current education system is outdated.
The system places relies too much on memorizing. Teachers feed you information in class, and you try to spill it all out in examinations. Is this method really necessary? I mean, the abundance of resources we have (internet, books, etc.) makes memorizing information kinda pointless.
A second issue i want to address is the authoritative nature of teachers. Students are taught steps to solve problems. If they get the steps wrong, the students are told to repeat the process again and again until they memorize the steps. This method effectively takes away an individual's curiosity to discover other perspectives in problem solving.
A capacity to memorize a lot of information and good disciplinary skills are essential traits for a factory worker, and perhaps critical for a modern office worker. But in today's world, is it necessarily to spend an individual's energy and time memorizing information, when it is available right at our finger tips? And should we allow the education system to strip us of our curiosity, which can potentially narrow the directions we take later in life?
What are your thoughts?
