THE QUEST OF DREAMS

I woke up in the desert,
confused and alone,
wondering why I was there,
and what was going on.

A man rode up behind me,
on a stallion strong and pride,
telling me to follow,
for they were close behind.

A second horse appeared,
from nowhere I could see,
placed my foot in the stirrup,
and mounted my noble steed.

Immediately we cued our horses,
to begin their graceful gallop,
in the race across the desert,
to stay way from them.

Soon then did I notice,
I wore light battle amour,
thick and blood red in color,
with thick black leather patches.

Thankful for this amour,
and the sword at my side,
when they caught up,
with weapons held high.

They were not human,
nor natural beasts,
but a summoned army,
of one from another land.

It was tall and mighty,
and its eyes of red flame,
stood there watching us,
with his unrelenting gaze.

The demons voice thundered,
as he roared a command,
his army advanced towards us,
with death in their eyes.

I leapt off my horse,
and then with foreign skill,
I lashed out my sword,
and I was the one who killed.

I slashed through the creatures,
killing them with skill,
as the man and I fought,
with unbridled force.

The demon was angry,
his army lay around him,
he grasped his hands together,
and formed a sword of flames.

With sword tip pointed at us,
the demon's roar came again,
"Give me what I seek,
and I shall let you live."

The man refused,
and lunged with his sword,
the demon retaliated,
leaving me to deal the wound.

with unknown agility,
I stabbed the demon,
though the strike was too late,
For the man lay there dying.

The demon roared in pain,
with the sword pierced in his heart,
his body turned to fire,
and now his ashes only remain.

I grabbed my sword and sheathed it,
and ran over to the man,
he grabbed my shirt and said,
"take it to the sky."

The meaning was unclear,
it had not rhyme or reason,
what was I to do,
and where was I to go?

I buried the man I had met that day,
promised him I would do what he wanted,
I then jumped on his stallion,
and rode towards the sunset.

The next day I discovered,
an item very unique,
a perfectly round white stone,
with a faint lavender swirl.

Next to it was a slip of paper,
with a rushed scribble inked on,
a short and simple phrase,
“never be selfish.”

I pondered over the meaning,
and nothing became clear,
I slept on it but nothing new,
so I continued blindly.

The desert is a dangerous place,
but luckily with my newfound skill,
I was able to protect myself,
to continue on my quest.

two days past by,
with nothing but hot sand,
but I came to an oasis,
and rested there.

Here is where the dragon came,
from the clouds in the sky,
he landed and he spoke to me,
in a wise and gentle tone.

"only those who mean no harm,
can gain access to the clouds,
prove this to me little one,
and I shall take you there."

The mans quest now made sense,
take the stone to the sky,
to the clouds,
and this dragon is the way.

"I have this stone,
and I was told,
from his dying breath,
to 'take it to the sky'"

"I promised him that I would,
despite not knowing,
the path I must follow,
and what I must face."

The dragon stepped closer,
lowered his majestic head,
and whispered softly,
"you are worthy."

"Climb upon my back,
and hold onto the stone,
The clouds are what you seek,
and I shall take you there."

I did as the dragon said,
and he flew to the sky,
Higher and higher,
until we were in the clouds.

I never knew what happened,
I never knew why,
all I know is that it ended,
with that dragon in the sky.

I awoke in my room,
my mind in a daze,
realizing my quest,
was an adventure of dreams.
