ok so i have to write an argumentative essay and i want to know what you think it's supposed to be 6 paragraphes and i have 4 and it's due next friday..(=O)
I believe the three worst affects of the BP oil spill are people losing their jobs, people losing their lives, and people being concerned over prices going up. The oil spill killed many fish in the Gulf of Mexico. The people who worked here as fish merchants have no jobs now, for the ones who have lived here all their lives they know no other lifestyle and cannot find work. The explosion that caused this oil spill killed eleven people. These innocent people lost their lives over oil. I do not believe it was worth it for people to die over something they may or may not have benefitted from in the first place.
The only way people can survive in this dying economy is with a job. This oil spill has deprived fisherman, fish merchants, and oil diggers of their jobs. Even though the leak has been plugged there are still gallons of oil floating around in the Gulf. The cleanup for this spill will be around $12.5 billion. BP will be paying this hefty fee so money will be coming out of BP employees pay checks. Joes Patties is a fish shop located in Pensacola Florida, and is one of many businesses affected by this oil spill. Their number of tourists has declined dramatically in the time between the explosion and today. Not only are people’s jobs affected by the oil spill but their health also. Oil is semi-volatile which means it can be evaporated into the air people breathe. The oily air can cause nausea, headaches, difficulty breathing, and much more.
The explosion that caused this oil spill took the lives of 11 well diggers. Professor Robert Bea of UC Berkeley believes the cause of the spill was methane hydrates. Methane hydrates occur when methane becomes trapped in the crystal structures of water. If not dissolved properly it will cause an explosion. A memorial was held on May 20 2010 in Jackson Mississippi, to remember the 11 BP workers who were killed in the oil well explosion.
Because of the rapid decline in marine life living in the gulf and the massive amount of oil spilled, consumers are concerned the prices for sushi and oil will go up. 21 different species of marine life currently live in the gulf these include: dolphins, whales, manatee and more. It is too early to tell how this oil spill will directly affect seafood but we can predict prices will go up as the number of marine life declines. Fish population is going down mainly because of the chemicals that are being out into the water to break up the oil. The problem is the oil is not disappearing, it is simply going to different places it shouldn’t such as fish habitations. This whole oil spill has had a domino effect; after the oil well exploded new safety procedures need to be put into place to ensure this will not happen again, these procedures are expensive so BP makes changes that include gas prices rising.
