We have to give a 2 minute speech on how to help poverty as a try out. Im 15, so dont go all hard core on me.
The Declaration of Independence rightfully states that all men are equal. That all men are entitled to the natural rights of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. 35.9 million people in the United States suffer from poverty annually. Which means 39.5 million people are being denied the ability to enjoy these natural rights given by the Declaration of Independence. Being denied these rights, people turn to the life of violence, crime, and injustice to obtain them. The government in past years has turned to social services such as Food Banks and Fundraisers to help this worldwide dilemma. But recently, there has been a substantial drop off in the amount of food and money they have raised. Also, the government is simply GIVING people struck by poverty food and money. GIVING them will solve nothing in the long run. If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. If you teach a man to fish, you feed him for his life. Education is key to erasing poverty. The government needs to TEACH these unfortunate people how to obtain money and food on their own. They need to TEACH them the skills which will help turn their lives around. But to do this, we need UNITY, within the community.
Famous Chef, Aaron McCargo Jr., recently opened up a restaurant in Camden, New Jersey. McCargo plans to hire citizens of the community who are poverty stricken, as a way to help them out financially and mentally. He wants to give back to the community, while teaching the citizens life skills, work ethic, and ways to provide for themselves or their family. Not only is he providing for the community, he is unifying the community. My proposal is that we expand McCargo’s idea, and have a board of restaurant owners open up restaurants in all poverty stricken areas in the United States. These restaurants would follow McCargo’s idea, and only employ those who are suffering from poverty. The menu would also be affordable to all citizens within those communities. On one day a month, all kids could eat for free, and on Election Day, everyone who voted could eat half off. These restaurants would not only be places to eat, but places where education occurs. Those who are employed will learn the necessary life skills to provide for themselves, while making money, not being given it. Those who eat there will feel comfortable, and learn that they are not alone. These restaurants will break away from the pattern of giving, and start a new one that involves teaching and educating. Because with teaching, the communities can succeed. With education, the communities can succeed. And most important, with unity, the communities can succeed.
