What do you think of my debate speech idea?

have to tryout for my debate team by giving a 2 minute speech on how to help poverty, and explain what the government is doing wrong. Keep in mind im 15, so dont go all hard core on my faults. They are really just looking how we speak.

The Declaration of Independence rightfully states that all men are equal. That all men are entitled to the natural rights of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. 35.9 million people in the United States suffer from poverty annually. Which means 39.5 million people are being denied the ability to enjoy these natural rights given by the Declaration of Independence. Being denied these rights, people turn to the life of violence, crime, and injustice to obtain them. The government in past years has turned to social services such as Food Banks and Fundraisers to help this worldwide dilemma. But recently, there has been a substantial drop off in the amount of food and money they have raised. Also, the government is simply GIVING people struck by poverty food and money. GIVING them will solve nothing in the long run. If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. If you teach a man to fish, you feed him for his life. Education is key to erasing poverty. The government needs to TEACH these unfortunate people how to obtain money and food on their own. They need to TEACH them the skills which will help turn their lives around. But to do this, we need UNITY, within the community

For critical people

People in Poverty ARE being denied their rights
- nobody cares if they dont get a good education....like they do towards me
- they can not pursue being happy because the government is turning their rights into privileges, such as money, food, education
- people need food and money to live basically, and they are not obtaining these two resources at an efficient rate

You are making a very good point. for example financial aid... how can people who are poor, that already gave up education because of hardship, depression and living in hostile neighborhoods have good grades to get financial aid for colleges. Good schools, good morals, and safe neighborhoods tend to promote advancement in life. How do people feel about studying in your house or apartment when you know there are drugs, drunks, prostitution and people walking with knives and guns with a bad attitude on your street.
