The Declaration of Independence rightfully states that all men are equal. That all men are entitled to the natural rights of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. 35.9 million people in the United States suffer from poverty annually. Which means 39.5 million people are being denied the ability to enjoy these natural rights given by the Declaration of Independence. Being denied these rights, people turn to the life of violence, crime, and injustice to obtain them. The government in past years has turned to social services such as Food Banks and Fundraisers to help this worldwide dilemma. But recently, there has been a substantial drop off in the amount of food and money they have raised. Also, the government is simply GIVING people struck by poverty food and money. GIVING them will solve nothing in the long run. If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. If you teach a man to fish, you feed him for his life. Education is key to erasing poverty. The government needs to TEACH these unfortunate people how to obtain money and food on their own. They need to TEACH them the skills which will help turn their lives around. But to do this, we need UNITY, within the community.
