What do you think of a desert buffet?

As of right now, we're serving a full meal, but I just love the idea of a desert buffet. I am considering doing this instead...

A little background: Sunday June wedding in a boathouse on the river. Pretty casual and the reception will be at 3 pm.

If i do the buffet idea I would have a cake, cheese cakes, cupcakes in all flavors, brownies, fruit with dips,candy, etc.

I think that's a great idea, especially since your reception is in the afternoon.
 
i think their a great way to get something that everyone loves in there. I love the look of all the color options you can do with a desert buffet.
 
I really like the idea, not everyone likes cake, but by giving other options every one is happy. If you are on a budget though, it would probably be one of the first things I cut.
 
Go for it. Lots of people serve desserts only instead of a full meal. At 3pm, no one eats a full meal and desserts are more appropriate for the timeframe anyway.

In fact, there was a time when all weddings everywhere were just cake and punch so desserts would have been commonplace since full dinners at weddings have not been around every single decade. Also, in some areas and social circles, no one serves a full meal even if they have the means to do so because it isn't customary for them.
