Is it :
The Rules of the game ?
The structure of the League?
The complexity of each position and its assingment?
The Fans?
Gambling and Pools, Fantasy Football etc...?
The Physicality?
Tailgates?

What is it that brings such a diverse people together (different ages, genders, ethnic backgrounds, etc) to have the same passion for this sport.
RaysAdvocate:LOL.agreed
USCGamecock:Yea,pretty amazing
Chet: chessmatches (a game within the game)

i think its the excitement and physicality of the game.

exciting because of the big hits, big plays, and every move a player makes can jeopardize the score.

physicality because of the contact. im sure u loved the hit Ryan Clark put on Willis McGahee in the AFC champoinship game just as much as i loved the hit Bart Scott put on Ben Roethlisberger a couple years ago.

It's combining physicality and the chess match. The fact that players who deemed "defensive players" can still impact a game and even score, for example Ed Reed always seems to get his hands on the ball and streak down the field. The fact that there's no set formula for winning.

Also, american football has a "minor" league that we care about, college football. You actually know the names of the guys in the draft and get attached to them, hope they land on ur team. They wore your colors of your alma mata or your rival and their professional fate matters to you.
