...this great sport that I love? As tonight is the MLB Civil Rights Game in Cincinnati and Speaking as a black male it is sad that not only major league baseball not promote its players especially blacks like Ryan Howard and Tori Hunter. It is also bad that not enough blacks have been playing baseball in the neighborhoods. People see Kobe and Lebron and they see people like Terrell Owens and L.T. and they want to be like them. Who is the guy in baseball that everyone wants to be like. As a kid this is the first sport I ever watch as I watched the 1986 World Series when I was just 4 years old and I watched the Mets beat the red sox in a great series. I just think it is sad that blacks in general are moving tolds basketball and football more than baseball (even though baseball is the second most popular sport in the U.S.). What do you think we can do to help this problem.

Your right about there not being enough blacks in the MLB. I think it has to do with a lot of african- americans live in urban areas, where playing basketball is much easier because you don't need that much space. I've heard people say that baseball is a "white sport" and basketball is a "black sport". I don't agree with these stereotypes but sometimes they are right. I think the MLB should try and make baseball more appealing to all races. Hopefully players like BJ Upton, Ryan Howard, etc. will try to reach out to kids and let them know that baseball is a sport that everyone can play.

Baseball is the most popular sport in America... But I think they need more blacks to idolize. Ryan Howard, Ken Griffey Jr. types. Icons would spark the black youth to play baseball. They need more baseball diamonds and not all those beat up basketball courts. Baseball diamonds are more appealing anyway. **More Little League Baseball leagues in black neighborhoods. Once the parents see the brand new baseball diamonds they will be signing their kids up.
I live in Long Beach and there are plenty of black kids playing pick up baseball. I don't think it's as big of a problem as you think it is, there will be plenty of black athletes in the MLB in ten years.
