i love my culture.. i like some of our customs but some i think are way over the top and too olden days.... anyway just wondering what do americans think of us?

1. no wearing pants or jeans.
2. anything less than waist length hair is considered "short hair"
3. no talking in front of men.
4. no interrupting when men are talking.
5. no laughing loudly in front of men
6. no walking loudly in front of men (i actually got told off by my grandma today for this)
7. always look down at your feet when you're talking to a man.
8. learn to cook
9. learn to dance sharqi ("belly dance" as americans know it)
8. marry the man your parents choose for you even if he's old enough to be your dad or grandpa.
9. always walk 3 steps behind your husband to show respect
10. never call your husband by his first name. call him "husband" or "master"
11. only eat after your husband has finished eating
12. bear your husband lots of sons
13. never question your husband about his drinking or gambling habits.
14. its a sin to refuse your husband sex
15. its okay for your husband to have mistresses (and its none of your business )

i could go on.. but there are way too many to list here...
dark eyes - i didnt mean rules as in law.. i guess theyre more social customs than rules.. i'm an indian girl and i don't do half the things on the list

If you really think those rules are followed in our great country anymore, I suggest you update yourself. Of all the women and girls I know, none of them follow even one of these dumb 'rules'.

Westerners are already misinformed enough about India, making them think we're a primitive culture. Don't add fuel to that fire.

Tell me where exactly in India these customs are still tolerated. I need to know. It can only possible in mega-conservative areas of the country which aren't on the map.
