In 2003 i think it was, a scientist researching the effects of polution on water ways in south asia geneticly modified a zebra danio. he took a specific gene from a deep sea flouresent jelly fish and added it to the genetic code of the zebra. his intention was to make the zebras internal organs glow but instead the entire fish flouresed a bright shade of orange. it papers arround the world and it wasnt long before a company bought the rights to the fish and gave the researcher funding to complete his work. the fish became known as "glo-fish" and are now avialable in 3 different colors. Today, all glo fish come from the ofspring of the original glo fish, and they pass that gene on to their fry.

Is it wrong to buy a geneticly modified animal? we have such power over life and death these days that we are approaching "god-like" abilities. but is this so different from the dozens of fish types that were created by selective and cross-breeding? not to mention dogs and cats. it could it be were messing with things we cant possably understand the implications of. indeed, neither the modified or original versions of the zebra have been introduced into non-native water ways (according to what ive read) but the danio is a very hardy fish capable of adapting to a wide variety of water conditions so its just a matter of time.

what do you think? right or wrong? and why?
